How important is a good night’s sleep?

Here at Total Body Orthotics we understand that having a good night sleep really improves your overall health and wellbeing.

However, when you have restricted mobility this can become quite a challenge! Some people find it hard to get comfortable in bed and have trouble getting in or out of bed without support. There are over 11 million people with a limiting long term illness, impairment or disability. The most commonly-reported impairments are those that affect mobility, lifting or carrying

Did you know that there are a range of mobility aids designed to be used in the bedroom to make life that little bit easier for you?

Bedroom aids are a fantastic addition to your home that promote your comfort and safety. When using some of these bedroom aids it allows the user to have more personal independence, so that they can reposition in bed, get in and out of bed alone and improve comfort and sleeping abilities.

We have listed some examples below of the bedroom aids which are available to you which will improve your mobility in the bedroom.

Over bed Tables

Overbed tables are bedroom mobility aids designed to improve independence whilst in the bedroom. Over bed tables are usually on wheels to allow the person to easily manoeuvre the table towards them without the need to get in and out of bed. The table can sit next to the bed and have things like food and drink, reading equipment and laptops etc to be in close reach. The user can then pull the table over the bed for easy access and use. Standing aids

After a long period of laying, it can be difficult for the person to easily stand up out of bed, especially unaided. We have standing aids such as sticks, walking rollators and walking frames available which when used with a bedrail can be very helpful to assist with standing up safely.

Bed rails

Bed Rails are a brilliant addition to help with extra stability getting in and out of bed. Helping the user keep balance getting on or off their feet is a particularly important part of safe independent living.
