The ankle is a complex joint which is capable of a wide range of movement: flexion, extension, inversion and eversion as well as a combination of these movements. The ankle is also subject to the whole body force during activity and this can make it prone to injures such as; fractures, strains and sprains.
The ankle joint acts as a hinge between the leg and the foot. It is held in place by ligaments, muscles and tendons which facilitate a large range of motion at the joint. Due to this range of movement it can be susceptible to injuries.
Ankle pain can also be caused by many things including;
